The regular, bustling cities of the northeast means that national parks in the region are a little few and far between. But this makes them all the more important and special, being accessible to millions for short or long visits. The dense forests which tend to characterise these parks change with the seasons, with lush green vistas in spring and summer making way for the orange and reds of Fall, before being coated in snow during winter.

The rolling mountains of Shenandoah provide beautiful moments at sunrise and sunset, while Acadia, one of the most famous parks east of the Mississippi, is a rocky coastal park that has been a welcome escape for northeast residents for over 100 years. The region is also home to one of America's newest parks, New River Gorge! The longest and deepest gorge in the Appalachian mountains, it lies a five hour drive west from Washington D.C., hosting some of the best white water rafting and climbing in the region.
