A dramatic and diverse landscape, the Pacific coast is characterised by mountain ranges, seismic activity, and lush forests. To the south, you can experience the heat and dusty landscapes of Death Valley and Joshua Tree, lying in the basin surrounded in part by the Sierra Nevada mountains. Deep within the range itself you can find Sequoia, Kings Canyon and the region's most famous park, Yosemite.

Travelling up the coastline you can meet the towering Redwoods, the tallest trees in the world! These trap vast volumes of water contributing to the misty appearance which cloaks them, even during summer. And never to be missed out on are the parks of the Pacific northwest, including the active Mt. Rainier volcano, the destroyed Mt. Mazama which has formed Crater Lake, and the delightful rainforests and beaches of Olympic National Park.
